Russia Says U.S. Actions Are ‘Undermining International Order’ Amid Venezuela Chaos

MOSCOW — Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov sharply criticized the United States on Wednesday, accusing Washington of undermining the global political system through recent military and diplomatic actions.
Lavrov condemned what he described as an illegal operation by the U.S. to oust Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, saying the action — along with threats against Iran — was damaging the very international order the United States once helped build. The Russian minister made the comments at a press conference alongside Namibia’s foreign minister in Moscow, framing U.S. policy as increasingly unilateral and unpredictable.
Calling the U.S. “unreliable,” Lavrov added that such moves were fragmenting global relations and eroding trust between major powers. Despite the sharp rhetoric, he also acknowledged reports of upcoming dialogue with U.S. officials, including a potential visit to Moscow by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and senior diplomatic advisors to discuss peace proposals on Ukraine.
Russia reaffirmed its commitment to longstanding alliances with Venezuela and Iran, while reiterating its belief that multilateral cooperation — not unilateral intervention — should drive international solutions to crises.
