Indian equity markets extended their recent rally on Tuesday, with benchmark indices posting gains for a fifth consecutive trading session as lower global crude oil prices, improving monsoon progress and sustained foreign investment boosted investor confidence.
The BSE Sensex and the Nifty 50 both traded higher during the session, building on strong gains recorded over the past four trading days. Banking and financial stocks remained among the biggest contributors after several lenders reported encouraging first-quarter business updates, reflecting healthy loan growth and stable asset quality.
Market sentiment also improved as Brent crude oil prices remained near pre-conflict levels, easing concerns over imported inflation for one of the world's largest energy-importing economies. Analysts noted that lower fuel prices could reduce pressure on corporate costs while supporting consumer spending in the months ahead.
Another positive factor was the return of foreign portfolio investors, who have resumed buying Indian equities after several weeks of cautious positioning. Market experts believe continued overseas investment, combined with favourable domestic economic indicators, has strengthened confidence in India's growth outlook.
Progress in the southwest monsoon has also supported optimism, particularly for sectors linked to agriculture and rural consumption. A normal monsoon is widely viewed as critical for food production, inflation management and overall economic activity in India.
Despite the positive momentum, analysts cautioned that investors will closely monitor upcoming corporate earnings and global economic developments for further direction. Results from major companies over the coming weeks are expected to provide a clearer picture of business performance and the strength of domestic demand during the first quarter of the financial year.
