George Clooney to Receive Venice Film Festival's Lifetime Achievement Award

Academy Award-winning actor and filmmaker George Clooney will be honoured with the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, organisers announced on Monday. The recognition celebrates Clooney's outstanding contribution to global cinema across a career spanning more than four decades.
The festival's organisers praised Clooney as one of Hollywood's most influential figures, highlighting his work as an actor, director, producer and humanitarian. Throughout his career, Clooney has earned international acclaim for performances in films such as Michael Clayton, Syriana, Ocean's Eleven, Gravity, and The Descendants, while also directing critically acclaimed productions including Good Night, and Good Luck and The Ides of March.
Clooney has maintained a close association with the Venice Film Festival for nearly three decades. Several of his films have premiered at the festival, making Venice one of the defining stages of his cinematic journey. Festival Director Alberto Barbera described Clooney as a versatile artist whose work has left a lasting impact on international filmmaking.
Responding to the announcement, Clooney expressed gratitude for the honour, calling the Venice Film Festival one of his favourite film events in the world. He said the recognition was especially meaningful given his long relationship with the festival and its audiences.
The 83rd Venice International Film Festival is scheduled to take place from September 2 to September 12, 2026, where Clooney will officially receive the Golden Lion during the festival's opening events.
The award further cements Clooney's legacy as one of modern cinema's defining personalities, whose influence extends beyond acting into directing, producing and global humanitarian advocacy.
