India is hosting the BRICS Anti-Drug Agencies Meeting in Guwahati, bringing together senior officials from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa to strengthen international cooperation against narcotics trafficking.
Organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), the two-day conference focuses on improving intelligence sharing, strengthening cross-border investigations and addressing the growing threat posed by synthetic drugs.
Officials noted that organised criminal networks are increasingly using sophisticated technologies and international supply chains to traffic narcotics, making international cooperation essential.
Delegates are expected to discuss new strategies for disrupting trafficking routes, strengthening forensic capabilities and improving operational coordination among BRICS member states.
India has repeatedly emphasised that combating narcotics trafficking remains an important national security priority due to its links with organised crime and terrorism.
